I tried to get three different perspectives on the same sky in one shot: The highly contrasted reflection form the car; the more dynamic clouds in the side mirror; and the clouds in front of us. I wanted ALL sky, but could not achieve the perspective without getting some ground in the frame. What do you think?

West Wall Bar

This is the bar in the West Wall Lodge. Bill Murray was in here an hour or so before I took this photo. I had my camera with me when he was there, but I wasn't going to be a jack ass and take his photo. After all, he was at the West Wall to avoid those kind of people in the first place. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, West Wall Lodge is the best lodge in Crested Butte, maybe even in all of Colorado.

Bigfoot Skiing

I was playing around with my new filters that I got. This is with an 8x ND and a Circular Polarizer. Using these two dramatically cuts down the amount of light that passes through the lens allowing you to shoot at much slower speeds in very bright conditions. This was taken at the end of the ski day in full sun light!

This is the result.

It reminds me of a photo of Bigfoot. And that's why I named it Bigfoot Skiing.

The Cock and Bull is a hole in the wall bar that offers some of the best food in Dallas. It's patrons are not rowdy or unruly, and as I said, the food is insane. They have the best burgers in Dallas, and I suggest the Red Bull Burger with avocado and jalapeños. Notice the Specials black board: Crab Claw Scampi, Boar Spare Ribs. It's amazing.

This was one of the first groups down the funnel to get vaccinated and branded. Some had to be castrated and have their horns cut off. Not particularly a fun thing to watch, but it was quite an experience. They were running down this shoot as if it were the path to freedom. Boy were they wrong.

The camera was set up on a tripod right outside my tent. The shutter was held open for 122 seconds and I flashed my flash all over the edges of the framed shot while sitting in one place in my tent. The result kind of looks like it was an infrared shot, but it was not. This was the "view" from my side of the tent.

I have to admit that this one was a bit set up. I lined up the sun a little to the left and behind her head and exposed for her so everything else was over exposed and washed out.

Whenever you think of someone you know, you can picture them, but when you focus on the details, your memory starts to get a bit fuzzy. I imagine this to be the image that's accessible when thinking of someone, until of course you see them or dream of them, then it comes into focus.

The west wall lobby is full of easy chairs and a few couches, and in the corner there is this table with four chairs and Chinese checkers. You can see the butte from here as the morning sun shines through the glass windows and warms your face. It's amazing!

There is a famous bar in Dallas called The Loon. The bar has it's very own homeless man as well. If you ever go there, be VERY careful of the mixed drinks. They are made with literally only a splash of mixer. Don't have more than two! Two = five at any other bar. If you've been there you know what I'm talking about and probably chuckled when you read this.

Pigeon Eggs

Some pigeons chose my balcony to build a nest and lay eggs. The real story sucks, so I'll tell you that they hatched and grew into strong, brave pigeons and live happily flying around Dallas high in the cool breeze... they died before they could even walk.

My mom is resting at a bus stop on the mountain. I shot this from across the street. I like that she isn't even thinking about me taking her picture and is just being. This is not 100% b+w either. If you look carefully, you can see color. 100% b+w shots can sometimes look flat, having 2%-5% color can really help a shot.

Crested Butte is an old miner's town. There was an old Conoco that was run by a town legend named Tony. After he died his Conoco was turned into a museum for the town. This gas pump is kept outside in his memory.

This was the strangest thing. There was a huge room/building; it had no roof, no glass windows, an open door, concrete floor and concrete walls. On one side, there was a folding table full of antique plates. It looked like people would come in and throw the plates across the room b/c there were pieces of plates everywhere. very strange.

There is a watering hole near where I like to set up camp in the Wichita Mountains near Lawton Oklahoma. There are bison there in the evening eating and drinking. This was the closet I felt comfortable getting, as there was a huge female that was watching over the others. She was staring me down. I don't even think she blinked. We had hiked what we thought was ALL DAY. From down in the valley, the sun looked like it was setting. When we got back to camp, we realized it was only 4:00PM!! So we ate and started drinking!! :)

This is a photo of an old, and very used throw blanket. I was playing with different kinds of light in this photo. The light from the right is coming from a GE Reveal bulb from a lamp and the light from the left is coming from a flash reflecting off my Arc`Teryx ski shell, which is grey. Pretty cool result, I think.

I tried to really get into this and forget the camera was there. I wanted to capture emotion.
I'm really glad I shot it RAW, my first time to shoot RAW. I am shooting exclusively in RAW from now on after taking an online class about the benefits and capabilities of shooting RAW. It's SOOO much more powerful.

I was testing the EF 70-200mm f/4 L lens that belonged to another photographer who was out there that evening. It's harder than I thought to capture birds. I eventually purchased the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM which works better for me.

This was my first shoot with an infrared filter. Unless you have a modified sensor or infrared film, you have to use a long exposure to capture enough light to create an image. This is very limiting, but did however give me enough time to run out and get in the photo. Justin thinks I look like a sprite.

I hit the White Rock Trail by my apartments to get some shots at the end of the day. I was bent down underneath this bridge shooting straight up. This was very awkward to shoot and I had to be very still b/c of the low light and no flash.
